Researcher / Ecology / Biodiversity

I study biodiversity to understand evolutionary, biogeographic, and social-environmental change.

I am an associate researcher at the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity in Chile. My work connects biodiversity structure, forest plots, biological collections, and science policy.

I am also interested in the scientific study of society-environment relations at global and local scales, and in the modernization of science policy in Chile.

Ongoing Projects

  • Chilean herbaria digitization

In collaboration with the BIODATA team, we are working on the digitization of Chilean herbaria.

  • Machine learning and the global structure of biodiversity

With Diego Arenas from DFKI, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, this project explored biodiversity patterns with support from AI for Earth, Microsoft.

  • Southern South American forest plots

I am building a network of forest plots in Chile to connect with collaborators across the Americas and study species richness at broad scales.
